Ubicomp Engineering Club
Wednesday, 17 February 2016 23:04

Ubicomp Students' Engineering Club officially started its activity! The club is associated with the Institute of Applied Computer Science, Lodz University of Technology. There were ca. 25 students (different age, various background & fields of study) at the first grand meeting on November 2,  2017. We discussed how we understand HCI and ideas for possible projects development and research. Natalia Paluch is the President of the board, with Bartosz Ammer, Klaudia Greif, Patryk Pomykalski and Mikołaj Woźniak as the Deputies. The main advisors of the club are Dr. Krzysztof Grudzien and Przemyslaw Kucharski, MSc. Congratulations to all the members and good luck with your projects in HCI!

Exploring interactive surfaces in real-life contexts
Thursday, 20 November 2014 12:37

We have honour to invite you for an invited lecture on 'Exploring interactive surfaces in real-life contexts'. Open lecture will be given during a seminar organized by ACM Łódź Chapter and Polish Information Processing Society at the Lodz University of Technology (TUL) on Friday, November 28 at 12:15. Lecture will be conducted by Lars Lischke from VIS-HCI, University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany and Paweł Woźniak, t2i Interaction Lab, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. More organizational details are available at the webpage of Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering.
Short abstract of the presentation is below. See you at TUL on Friday!

In this brief entry-level lecture we will present two projects from the Human-Computer Interaction domain that show how interactive surfaces may change our experiences of everyday life in the future. First, we will talk about Thaddeus - a multi-device mobile system that uses phones and tablets to create an ad-hoc interactive environment. Thaddeus enables users to explore information visualisations on the go and is the first step towards the analytic environments of the future. Next, we will present Parallel Exhibitions, which is a museum system based on a tabletop interface that enables users to actively participate in creating museum exhibitions. Users are invited to become curators for a while and the system facilitates the dialogue between museum authorities and the visitors. The lecture will be followed by a discussion of future interactive systems and their role in our society and an informal get-together.
